WKRBC OVERVIEW
All blood and
blood components used by Owensboro Mercy Health System,
Breckenridge Memorial Health, Crittenden County Hospital, Caldwell County Hospital, and Ohio County Hospital are
supplied solely by Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center.
Our center also supplies blood to Jennie Stuart
Medical Center in Hopkinsville.
Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center, a
not-for-profit organization, has been supplying these
hospitals since January of 1978. Over
14,500 donors are needed annually to maintain an
adequate supply for our area.
The Blood Center is responsible to the community
for collecting a vast human resource...LIFE SAVING
BLOOD.
Donors
of Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center are volunteer
blood donors and are not paid for donating.
They come from all walks of life.
They are homemakers, business people, ministers and
high school students.
Most importantly, blood donors are concerned
individuals who care and take the time to donate.
People
who use blood also come from all walks of life and ages.
Babies, children, teens, young adults and senior
citizens....business people, ministers, high school
students. Often
it is someone you know, a friend, relative or colleague.
This is why it is so important for those of us who
can to give blood regularly.
This sharing helps guarantee blood will always be
available to hospital patients when it is needed.
Blood
is collected at various mobile sites such as businesses,
churches, high schools and college campuses.
Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center also offers
two locations to best serve our donors: |
A Message
from YOUR Blood Center
Almost everyone over age 17 can donate blood.
There are few restrictions.
Unfortunately, only about 5% of those who can give
ever do. Yet nine out of 10 people who live to age 70 will
need blood at one time or another.
If you do need blood, we hope the supply meets your
needs. However,
if people do not donate regularly, the supply will not be
available when it is needed
