DONATING WHOLE BLOOD

Who Can Donate?
Anyone who is in good health, is at least 17 years old or older, and weighs at least 110 pounds may donate blood every 56 days.

Questions About Eligibility
Some travel, health conditions, or medications may temporarily or permanently prevent persons from donating blood. If you have a question regarding your eligibility to donate blood and would like to discuss it then please call 270-684-9296 and ask for Donor Room

Medical Conditions
AIDS-individuals at high risk and their partners Cannot donate
Colds and flu Cannot donate
Diabetes, on medication Can donate
Diabetes, on insulin Cannot donate
Hepatitis and jaundice after age 11 Cannot donate
Malaria, in malaria area One-year wait
Active malaria, with or without medications Cannot donate
Pregnancy, after delivery, miscarriage, abortion Six-week wait
Breastfeeding Cannot donate
 
Medical Procedures
Surgery, without transfusion after release from physician Can donate
Surgery, with transfusion of blood or blood components 1-year wait
Medications
Antibiotics, oral 10-days from last dose
Antibiotics, injectable Thirty-day wait
Allergy Medications, Diuretics, Diet pills, Sleeping pills, Tranquilizers, Aspirin, Tylenol Can donate
Blood Pressure Medications Can donate
 
Vaccinations
Measles, Mumps, Rubella Vaccination One-month wait
Flu Vaccination 24 hour waiting period
Hepatitis B Can donate
 
Other Possible Restrictions
Ear/Piercing professionally done Can donate
Ear/piercing, nonprofessionally done 12-month wait
Tattooing 12-month wait
